Lessons in the warmth of the sun

Today I am inside looking out the window at gray skies and raindrops. I remind myself that my days of warmth are coming up pretty quick for me, but I can have time with the SON right now!

The other day I had my worship music in my ears as I was sitting in the backyard soaking up some of that wonderful warmth. Then His goodness hit me new as it does each morning and I began reflecting on the similarities between sitting in the sunshine and sitting in the presence of the Son.

Sunshine warms my body. As the cloud cover comes over the sun I would be left chilled, definitely noticing the atmosphere had changed. This is the same way walking with the Lord effects my life. By walking this life with him, in obedience and to what the Lord has planned for me I am warmed, I am full of life, I have joy… but when I would walk in the way of the flesh or the way I want things to be, I  would be left cold and not so full of life but  allowing grayness of depression to sink in.

Sunshine tans the skin. Now I am aware of dangers of tanning, but just think about this on a less scientific and health risk aspect but on the visual picture instead. Sitting in the atmosphere of the sun changes things as they are. The skin will turn a darker color or some cases red.  Just as sitting in the presence of the Lord should change us if we are letting Him do the changing. We should not be staying the same but being transformed.

The sunshine is needed to grow the plants in my yard, just like the son is needed to grow me and perfect me.

Time out of the sun for days on end leaves me vitamin D deficient. What would days on end without the SON leave me?

Challenge this day my friend: Spend time in the SON and reflect on the difference it makes having Him there with you. If it has been awhile and you have been hiding away in the shade, or walking in cloud cover, go ahead strip away the darkness and enjoy the life of light…experience Him new. Ask Him to be a part of your life.

Matthew 28:19- 20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
