I have been reading a great book my mother gave me titled; A Woman’s High Calling, By Elizabeth George. I am still in the very first couple of chapters, but so far I like the topic and the truths it presents, a lot.
I am left with a new excitement that God has used this book, to again, confirm some things that have been stirring in me lately.
I do know that when we come to God with our life and we trust in Jesus as our savior that we are to turn and repent from our old life. We have become new and are living under the grace of God.
I have been asking myself, am I growing, am I changing and showing the glory of His Kingdom in my life?
I am not talking about my judgement on other people declaring they need to change, but rather my own reflection that Christ is in my life and doing a work in me. Am I becoming all that the Lord has planned for me? Am I better today than yesterday? Do I know His word more today? Do I pray and seek Him continually as instructed in the bible?
Evaluation is an important part of any aspect of our lives. I would evaluate how I am doing at a job, as a mother, as a wife, how much more should I be evaluating how I am doing as a child of the most high God?
If I am staying stagnant and not propelling forward in my walk, I will not reach the fullness of all that God has for me.
If I was treating my teenage sons as if they were three rather than growing and learning with them, I would be stunting their developement. If I want to obtain all the fruits of the Spirit I must keep growing just as they must keep growing into adulthood. I do not want to stay as a young babe in my walk with Christ.
There is no excuse for anyone to stay where they are with the things of the Lord. He always has more for us to do and experience. He is an infinite God that is always teaching and ministering to our hearts and ready to take us deeper.
I can not complain if I am not seeing new fruit in my life. If I am not cultivating and growing what the Lord has placed in me, I will not see new fruit.
I must evaluate: what am I pursuing, who am I seeking and how am I living? I am not talking about walking around in shame and doing nothing about it, I am talking about stopping and asking myself that question, daily and putting my sights on HIM.
Some things I evaluate to see if God is growing me: How are my relationships, am I walking in judgement of others, am I showing love, am I being soft with my words and having a contrite heart? When I evaluate I recognize I am human and not always walking as I should be. I repent and dig in more to the Lord by only His power will I overcome the things that I am faltering in.
I ask myself, am I living in the conduct of a Godly woman moment by moment? I can see in areas where I have not. I can see where there are areas that need growth. but I would not see them if I walked blindly forward without seeking. It is so easy to do that which is pleasing to myself.
I know my blog speaks to men and women and even though, I am addressing myself, I want to encourage that these growths are not just for me, but for every child of God. Young and old should be evaluating if they are growing in their walk.
I must confess that I want to be a lady, I want to be His daughter that shines with the Glory of God. I want others to know me by my fruit, not because I am so good, but because HE is SO SO good in my life!
How do we grow in the Lord? How do we obtain His fruits of the Spirit?
We read His word, speak His word out of our mouth and we meditate on that word. We pray and praise, drawing near. We listen when He convicts us and we pursue Him. We remember we are to be humble and He is never done with us. I have learned much over the years, thanks to great leaders, truth speakers, prayers and through the Holy spirit. These people challenge me and push me forward, they do not let me stay stagnant. I have only just begun. I have much, much more growing to do!
Challenge this day my friend: Evaluate where you are now. Is this where you want to stop or do you want more? There is never an end to the depths the Lord will take you, walking in the FULLNESS that God has for you is the sweetest gift.
Colossians 1:9-14
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
